History:
Rotary District 2450 is a unique district composed of nine countries:
Our district was one of the first districts to apply the Rotary in Action theme as they formed:
- In 1968 the 1st Rotaract Club in the district was the Rotaract Club of Al Mansoura (Egypt)
- In 1971 the 2nd Rotaract Club in the District was the Rotaract Club of Cairo (Egypt)
- In 1972 came the Rotaract Club of Alexandria and Rotaract of Heliopolis (Egypt)
- In 1982 Rotaract Club of Amman (Jordan)
- In 1986 Rotaract Club of Limassol - Amathusia (Cyprus)
- In 1994 Rotaract Club of Manama-Sulmaniya (Bahrain)
The idea of forming the district 2450 started at the end of 1977, the reason for this idea was the increase in the number of clubs, as the number changed from 5 to 7 clubs which were (Mansoura, Cairo, Giza, Heliopolis, Alexandria, South Cairo and Tanta). Also the idea of forming El–Shams club was accruing, as Mr. Mustafa Fayez Mansour who was very interested with Rotaract activities has been chosen responsible for the Rotaract clubs in the district. Eng. Mootaz Al Motassem was responsible for collecting the clubs and an arrangement has been made to form D2450.
The 1st Phase of forming D2450 was arranging a meeting for all the clubs and strengthening the connection between them and exchanging their different projects.
The 1st meeting between the clubs was on 23/12/1977 at Al–Ahram Newspaper, and then a Conference took place on 3/2/1978 to launch D2450 and the 1st representative was chosen. After that, joint trips and projects followed and the image of ROTARACT started to shape in front of all the clubs.
Conference Recommendations:
- Organizing join projects between clubs in order to strengthen the relations between the members
- Submitting a suggestion to Rotary International to study the possibility of raising the membership age limit to 30 years or allowing the members who reached 28 years to be a consulting committee in order for the members to benefit from their experience
- Writing new about Rotaract in Rotary Magazine
- Settings 1st Friday of November 1978 to organize the 2nd RAC Meeting in Al-Ahram Newspaper Building
